Aircraft Landing Gear Components
FSC 1620: Aircraft Landing Gear Components
Federal Supply Class (FSC) 1620 covers the assemblies and parts that make up aircraft landing gear systems for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms. These items are sourced to MIL-SPEC, NAS, and OEM airworthiness standards and are stocked for depot and intermediate-level maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).
Landing gear components carry the full weight of the aircraft on the ground and absorb the shock of landing, taxi, takeoff, and arrested recovery on carrier decks. Because they are flight-safety-critical, they are subject to strict inspection, traceability, and life-limit tracking.
Typical parts include oleo shock struts, actuators, drag and side braces, trunnions, axles, downlocks, and retraction mechanisms for retractable and fixed gear. They are machined from high-strength steel alloys such as 300M and 4340, along with aluminum and titanium, and are commonly hard-chrome plated for wear and corrosion resistance.
